UWI Admin Building renamed the Kenneth Hall Building

Sir Kenneth Hall is the Patron of the Farquharson Institute of Public Affairs.

The Administration Building was named after Sir Ken on December 14, 2023 because of his indefatigable efforts to have that building - and several others - constructed during his tenure as Principal of the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. 

 

He thanked many people, but stated that three family members were pivotal to his success: his mother, his elder sister and his paternal grandmother. He knew he was different as a child but his mother told him 'you can be different but please be different in a way that I can support that difference.'  He had adhered to those words from childhood.

Director Dr. Ava Maxam's new critically important position in Trinidad and Tobago

Dr. Ava Maxam, Oceanographer, and the former Executive Director at Mona GeoInformatics Institute with a reputation for getting things done, is now the Director of the Institute of Marine Affairs in Trinidad and Tobago.

 

You will meet Ava in a more personal way when reading the  beautiful poem she dedicated to her daughter and all children playing a part in protecting the oceans in the SPSF book Keep Your Child Safe.

Director Emma Lewis is now closely involved with the Caribbean Climate Justice Alliance

The Alliance convened the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) in Trinidad.

 

The Alliance officially launched its “Caribbean Climate Justice and Resilience Agenda 2023 - 2030” at COP28 in Dubai, United Arab Emerites (UAE) in December, 2023.  Emma serves as co-chair of the “Just Nature-based Solutions” Working Group. See the CANARI website here. 

 

Anyone who knows Emma knows how passionate she is about environmental conservation.  She was named one of the ten most important women in the Jamaican Environmental Movement by Forbes.

Board of Advisors Member Dr. Joanne Collins-Gonsalves receives astonishing News about her Book

​Dr. Joanne Collins-Gonzales has received happy news.  Her book on Iris de Freitas Brazao, has been featured by the University of London as one of the 'three fascinating items from the collection of 312,000 volumes within the holdings of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS) Library.  The book was showcased across the University of London Senate House Library's major social media pages on June 26, 2024. The book was highlighted as part of a series of events to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the School of Advanced Study which was formed in 1994.
